Hello geniuses! I decided to do an extended review on the movie "Life of a King". This movie was highly prodigious! Between the inspiring narrative, the tidbits of teachings, and the fragments of humor, it made for one emotional movie!
Before I get into the actual review and summary, I have someone to thank...I would like to thank Netflix! Thank you so much for allowing anyone who pays $9.99 each month, to watch this gem of a movie!
I probably wouldn't have discovered this movie on my own, if it wasn't for the mystical ways of Netflix's recommendation system (Also my mom telling me about it...)! Either way, I found out about it, loved it, and want to do a review on it! So, let's get to it!
Life of a King is the unlikely true story of Eugene Brown and his one-man mission to give inner-city kids of Washington D.C. something he never had - a bright future. He learned plenty of life lessons through the game of chess during his 17-year incarceration for bank robbery.

Life of a King is the unlikely true story of Eugene Brown and his one-man mission to give inner-city kids of Washington D.C. something he never had - a bright future. He learned plenty of life lessons through the game of chess during his 17-year incarceration for bank robbery.
When he is finally released from prison, reality presents itself and he finds himself searching for a job. With the help of a few old friends he lands the job of a detention monitor. After interacting and gaining respect from the kids at the detention hall, he makes it his number one priority to help at-risk youths avoid the mistakes he made in his life.
Between making it his full-time job to teach these kids, he also has to deal with the struggles of re-strengthening the bond between his now grown daughter and son. Upon his arrival he takes the time to find out that his son has also been in the juvenile correction center for about a year because of his activity in drug dealing, a truth that hits too close to home for Eugene.
After writing a multitude of unanswered letters to his incarcerated son, he makes it an effort to teach the teens at the detention center, the game of chess. While teaching the teens, he meets some very bright kids along the way that are not using their full potential. He makes it his mission to bring it out of them.
I was infatuated with this masterpiece of a movie! Between Cuba Gooding Jr's astonishing performance as Eugene Brown, and the raw emotion the actors brought to their performances, this film was made to be captivating.
I give this movie an 8.5/10! This film is definitely one of those movies you could watch over and over again. (I know I will definitely be watching 6 more times!) The movies brought tears to my eyes more than once, it was so candid, and unprocessed, it let you see the world through a kid who lives in the inner city.
I would highly recommend this movie to anyone who's looking for an exceptional movie to watch! I believe everyone should know how to "Think before you move."
What Parents Won't Like
