Hey wonderful people! So, I've been away for a while, but I'm coming back with a BANG! And I thought what better way to come back then with some amazing pictures filled with vibrant walls, long overalls, and a whole lotta "smizing"! The theme behind this was Cuban inspired, I've always had a thing for Cuba. The deep history of its country, the culture, the vibrant colors, and me, being the car junkie that I am, cries a little inside when I see those brightly colored vintage, classic Oldsmobile, and Chevrolet's! Everything is better old school!
So, getting into the fashion aspect of things, I'm going to breakdown this outfit, and give you the good, the not so good and sprinkle in a few teachable fashion highlights. If I do right by my loyal blog followers (you), you will walk away with a few fashionista pointers. This look gave me the vibe of being a conquistadora, (one who conquers new territory). It's trendy with the ruffled sleeves and with my tall stature, I feel like a goddess roaming the streets of Cuba...yep, that's how my mind works. Imaginative, right? That's the 6 year old free spirit coming out of me! Until I touch down in Cuba, I will continue to create the reality that I wish to exist. :-)

People ask me where the inspiration came from for this outfit...and I tell them it was just a result of a teenage girl with a credit card. No, but seriously, that combination can get very dangerous. Just ask the clothes in my closet waiting to be worn. This outfit isn't my average everyday look, it's something..."different". If clothes could have an undertone, this outfit would have a unique one. I like how it reaches the bar of dressy, but depending on shoes, and accessories, you can bring it down to the bar of fun, trendy, flirty, edgy street style.
When I found this ruffled, menslike business shirt, I saw an opportunity! It does run more on the "boxy" trend that people are drawn to now, but with that point being made, you might want to purchase a size smaller than what you would usually wear. This shirt appears nice and neat, with a finished press, but after two minutes of wearing it, its a crinkled mess. You've been warned!

As far as the wide legged pants with suspenders, I loved them. Being so long and lanky, you really want to find items that compliment that aspect of you. So instead of going for a cropped jean look, you might want to swap that out with a palazzo pant, or a jean that has a funkier cut towards the bottom, so it won't look as if the jean just doesn't fit you right, but instead flatters your length and finishes it with a nice detail at the end. And if this goes right over your head, I will be doing a blog post in favor of tall girls and what flatters their length so stay tuned.
Getting back to these "Oh SO fabulous!" wide leg pants. They do have adjustable buttons within the band of the pants. So if you want the suspenders tighter, or looser, there are buttons inside to accommodate those needs. The pants fit pretty true to size! I got my normal size that I know fits me pretty well, and even though they had my size in store, I still tried them on because this was a new brand I've never shopped with before, and I was happy to find out that these pants had a true to size fit. The pants run in a: 0. 2. 4. 6. 8. scheme. 0 being the smallest size and going up to 14 being the largest size they run to. What I absolutely loved about them is that you can play them up or down in so many different ways! Whether you wanted to put a body suit under it, or dress it up with a collard shirt, endless opportunities!

Accessories with this look can be a little tricky, especially with the ruffles and dots pattern already feeling like enough! But, being the girly girl that I am, I still wanted to add my own little flare to this look! I added these Afro Cuban earrings with cowrie shells at the bottom, which I ended up really liking with this look! I also added this dainty, gold wire spun Sankofa ring that I actually bought for my mom, but had to "borrow" it from her for the sake of this look. And last but not least, another ring, also "borrowed" from mom...HEY! Don't give me the look, when it comes to the ring game Momma is the OG! I think at the end of the day, accessories is where you can really express your inner self. So, if you want to go with a statement ring, or earrings, I say go for it! With this look, I would say nothing TOO big, but at the end of the day fashion is about being you, letting your inner confidence and beauty shine through you!
For shoes, that's a bit of a different story. Being a girl who admires and falls in love with high heels, but can't even walk in a kitten heel, it kinda limits my choices when it comes to forward fashion outfits! But it's either, "dress the look up with a stunning heel and almost kill yourself and twist an ankle because you wanted to be extra" or "go with a regular shoe, you don't always love, but will do"...your choice. Flash forward, I cherish my ankles. So for this look, I went with a black and white, sneaker styled, platform shoe. Which for pictures doesn't look too bad, but the inner me was saying "BREAK OUT A STILETTO AND HAVE SOME FUN GIRL!". Yeah...my mind likes to set me up sometimes...it will say "when all else fails, BE EXTRA!" (side eye) Not today girl, NOT TODAY!

Now come to my favorite part....HAIR AND MAKEUP!! I love playing around with different hairstyles, and makeup looks! I could literally spend my whole weekend, in the bathroom, in front of the mirror, with my laptop on Pinterest, gushing at all of the possibilities I can do with my hair and face. For this look though, I decided to stick with simplicity! As they say, simplicity is key. I had just come from a different shoot this day, and I had my hair in this really neat, perfected bun, and I was like, screw this, let's change it up! I wanted something fun, but not something that would take away from the look itself. So, I just decided to do a quick and easy half up, half down look, or top bun, as people refer to it! I was thinking about it too...and I was wondering if you wanted me to do hair tutorials here as well? Just a question. If you want me to, comment below, with a request or picture of what style you would want me to re-create.
On to makeup! For this look, I just decided to do something simple. I didn't even put on my beloved highlighter! (That stuff gives me LIFE). If ever I am heavy handed with anything, highlighter would be it. HA! I use Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer (doesn't give a full coverage, but instead just a light finish that keeps your skin moisturized), a little mascara because I was not blessed with my brothers unbelievably long eyelashes....like it's not fair, I'm the girl! I should have the beautiful eyelashes! I combed out my eyebrows and just used a pencil to fill in a few spots, I didn't necessarily want them to be "on fleek", just something more on the natural side. I finished out the look with a little coconut oil based lip balm, because coconut oil fixes all problems in life. And ta-da! Easy, simple, flawless. The minimal steps I had to take to achieve this hair and makeup look, made my day!

How to RE-Create this look:
RUFFLED SLEEVE TOP
"This playfully sophisticated top will add just a touch of flair to everything you pair it with. The top in a traditional striped cotton voile has a mock neck with a button closure at the back of the neck." (-$58)
SUSPENDER WIDE LEG PANT
"Chic high-rise pants with wide flowing legs are topped with menswear-inspired suspenders that can be removed easily. " (-$78)
BLACK & WHITE LACE UP PLATFORM SHOES
The shoes are no longer for sale, I originally purchased them at my local vintage store. They were from Forever 21. Naturally, you could most likely find these shoes from a Forever 21, DSW, maybe even a Nordstrom Rack, some place along those lines you should be able to find a duplicate, or similar shoe. Again though, like I said within this post, I would've much rather gone with a dainty heel, with my nails painted, just to give a pop of color.

So with that, comes the end of this blog post. Don't worry, I've made a commitment to start blogging more often, now that I'm out of school. High school here I come! Comment if you want to see something different, whether it be hair tutorials, vlogs on the blog instead of written posts, I'm always open! Don't forget. Stay Fierce, as always!
