I wrote a poem of my thoughts, views, and worries of this world I would like to share with you. It is entitled "Being Black". It is directed to anyone that is part of the problem, benefitting from the chaos and not doing anything to resolve it. I, however am committed to play my role as a change agent.
Being Black
You execute if we're in a skirt, designer three piece suit, or hoodie and jeans.
You want us to comply like the people on the t.v. screens.
Why? Because you're disturbed by my genes?
The genes I can't change by any means,
Nor would I, for that matter.
My genes remind me that I come from a line of pharaohs, queens, and kings,
Yet you took us from our homeland and made us your play things.
Are you now ready to discard of us?
Wait, before you do, let us all sit down and be civilized,
Or is that to much to ask considering we were the ones that brought forth civilization?
I will accept the "thank you" on behalf of my ancestors who never received one,
But I will leave it up to you to apologize for the lies you feed our nation.
Is it never enough?
Bodies upon bodies lay upon the steaming, hot cement...
Is that not a violation of this nation?
With Becky's and Timmy's you whisper "Draw Back",
But with Dana's and Darius's you scream "Attack"!
Yet all we were doing, was being black.
-Trinity
No matter what color you are, what ethnicity you claim to be, this battle is not just mine, it is ours. Just remember you're living in this world too. Do you want to live in a reckless, racist world, or a world where we can all coexist with one another?
